LOS ANGELES (July 14) - There has been much speculation about whether the Toronto Maple Leafs will unveil a new third jersey for next season. The answer I've gotten is yes... the re-designed alternate (pictured below) will look very much like the jersey the club wore at Maple Leaf Gardens on May 2, 1967 - the night it last hoisted the Stanley Cup. The 12-point maple leaf is identical to that worn by the team from the start of the 1967 playoffs to the end of the 1969-70 season. The striping is also identical to the '67-'70 version, though larger on both the jersey-bottom and sleeve.
This is a very sharp design and should do extremely well for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. It replaces the alternate jersey worn, on and off, by the hockey club since the 1998-99 season: a replica of the mid-'60s white road uniform (with old-style, 35-point Leafs logo and blue shoulder yoke).
Will pass on details of when this new third jersey is scheduled to hit the stores.
MAPLE LEAFS NEW ALTERNATE JERSEY...
REPLACES THIS ONE, WORN PERIODICALLY SINCE 1998
nice, i like it
ReplyDeleteAwesome Howard thanks for posting this bud.
ReplyDeleteshoulder yoke? 52 years later, i finally know what that's called :) i was kinda hoping for the 70's jersey, just for the cheesiness, maybe another day
ReplyDeleteCredit to LeafsHQ for the mockup would've been nice, but good post regardless!
ReplyDeleteThough I like the current 3rds better, this was the best option involving change IMO
those 2 jerseys should just straight up be the home and away shirts and come up with a 3rd design.. like the 70s one perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI like drweni's idea best.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they'll do something like that during the Leaf's 100-year anniversary like the Habs did.
ReplyDeleteWish they would someday don the version they wore throughout the '50 up until the end of the '63-'64 regular season.

ReplyDeleteI would prefer if the our old 3rd jersey (one that is being replaced) became the standard jersey every game (with a blue one for home games).
ReplyDeleteI like the new jersey for the most part .. but I hate the 3 big stripes. I like the logo better, more clean and subtle
ReplyDeleteProof positive that MLSE is more about money than winning and tradition. You don't see the Habs changing uniforms every 5 minutes.
ReplyDeleteway better than the white one
